This is the home that I built. It is the home that I raised my two children in. It was built with my blood, sweat, and tears. This home has so much meaning for me and represents so much joy and so much struggle. I have so much gratitude that this is the legacy of and for my family.
Now I rent this home to younger families and people who are starting out in the community. It means so much to me that there are children being born and raised in this home, the next generation. And that there are young people coming to our community who are passionate and skilled and kind, honest people. And that I’ve connected with them and have them staying in this space that means so much to me.
I stopped by there this evening briefly after a few days of a very inspiring conference about inclusion and equity and building a better world, and also a wonderful night in the treehouse with some other women whom I’ve known and loved for many years. And a few weeks ago, I also got to spend a night there with one of my sisters who is visiting from out west, and we hadn’t had that opportunity to connect one on one for a long time or to enjoy this space and this land together.
I know I’ve been focusing on gratitude a lot in these posts, but it’s because I can see how much abundance surrounds me, with the land and friends, and loved ones and community. My intention is to continue to build these things and to create the world that I want to see, and I want to live in . And it’s a world that is considerate of the earth and every person and their needs and providing the opportunity for them to grow into their best selves.

I have been very quiet on Instagram over the last week because I went to an amazing women’s retreat and then had a sleepover in our Pebble Tent with some old friends, which was an amazing way to end my incredible weekend.
This scene shows a very simple moment in my life, but one of the reasons why I love my life so much. It was driving home with our pup Anson and his bestie Birdie, chatting with my partner Bill about what we’ve been up to.
I just love my life and where I live and the people that surround me and the work that I do. I really couldn’t ask for more and I am so grateful.

I had a chance to sleep in the hanging bed under the treehouse last night because there weren’t any guests staying there and I was trying to get some extra time to work on projects at the property.

I had the opportunity to stay in the Pebble Tent last week and it was lovely! I turned on the mattress pad heater to warm up the bed because it was a chilly night, and I stayed nice and warm all night! The bed is so comfortable and I woke up to the sound of loons. I didn’t want to get out of bed!

The place to be to escape the heat! (Sound on!)
Our stream always had enough depth so that you could lay down in spots and submerge your body. But with the flooding the last two years, it created this one deep spot where you can actually float! Probably a few people could float!
Those flooding events were crazy - I could hear the boulders moving down the stream, which sounded much like thunder. But now we have this sweet little spot to take a dip, near the sauna! Such a treat!

Family. β€οΈ My kids have been an enormous inspiration for me. Like any parent, I wanted to provide everything I could for my children. However, it’s hard to make ends meet as a single parent in a rural area and finances were a struggle for a long time, despite working multiple jobs and trying to do it all. I went back to school and got my master’s degree, which helped a lot. But building the treehouse and renting it out has been the game changer and has allowed me to provide more for my children than I ever had been able to. For this, I am so grateful. The treehouse vision that I was able to create continues to allow me to invest in my children (even though they’re young adults now!) and our property to provide a beautiful and peaceful space for our guests to get away to. I am so grateful for my life, my family, our guests, my home, and the opportunities that continue to arise. I am thrilled to share this ever-evolving retreat with you!

My plan yesterday was to work at my state job, and then go set up the Pebble Tent with some help from a friend’s son who works for @stouttent, and then go get my mini-truck inspected. Sound on! There’s many things going on in this video. For one, for some reason, my phone is suddenly showing weird bars in the video. But if you can ignore that, you can hear the sound of peepers and coyotes in the background. I grew up in a rural area of upstate New York just south of Saratoga and the Adirondacks And there was a pond just behind my house. The sound of these peepers brings me back to those simple and beautiful times of being free roaming around the fields and woods of Charlton, New York. It’s a feeling of soothing and relaxation in a time where the world feels so chaotic. I think we need more of the sound of peepers than we do the sound of politics. β€οΈ

Mud season has a special place in Vermonter‘s hearts - Vermont is home to 8,550 miles of dirt roads and boasts only 7,213 miles of paved roads, according to the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
We may not always love it when the roads become so full of potholes that it shakes your car apart, or if the mud ruts get so deep that you get stuck.

The other day, the outlet that lights up the path down to the treehouse went out. Thankfully, my son is an electrician! There are now new, waterproof candles lighting the way down to the treehouse! I have been trying to figure out for years how to make these “candles” last. Well, I went to the hive mind and I found the solution from an old and dear friend of mine! The solution was brilliant, yet simple, and I wondered why I never thought of this before! I ended up buying some high quality, waterproof electric candles and put them inside of some jars! Simple, and brilliant. I love it! They will work and be protected during the extreme weather we experience in Vermont. Grateful for my friend and the hive mind!

Ahhh, new year, winter reflections… so many transitions happening now, which makes me think back to who I truly am. I realize that I am really trying to get back to who I was as a child. That is where my interests still lie and who I am to my core. Is it like that for everyone?
I’ve spent so much of the last 25 years working so hard and taking care of others, it’s easy to lose yourself in those responsibilities. While I don’t think I ever lost myself completely, thankfully, I did lose the connection to lightness and joy. I didn’t have the time or resources to connect with my core self.
Now that my kids have grown and I’m not drowning anymore, I can reconnect with those things and those parts of me that brought lightness to my life, like hiking, skiing, horseback riding, pets, plants, and quiet creative reflection.
Being able to devote more time to the treehouse and glamping business brings me back to my childhood dreams and imagination, and now I can bring that imagination to life! What a complete gift that is!
I look forward to bringing you this reconnection to lightness and joy, imagination and connection to nature in new creative ways this coming year and the years moving forward!
I hope you will join me on this adventure and enjoy some magical time away at our beautiful, little retreat!
